We went to see the neurologist after waiting a month! Unfortunately, they were unable to give us direct answers. Basically, Jeremy's initial EEG (brain wave test) showed some abnormalities that she called spikes. These spikes are areas of the brain that when put under stress would shut down more easily than others and therefore cause a seizure. She did mention the word epilepsy, but at this time, it's too early to say for sure. She also said that since Jeremy went to an Open MRI, it may have missed some smaller details in the brain. (We went to our friend John Griffin's MRI clinic since he so generously let Jeremy go for FREE instead of the $1200 it would cost at S&W.)
What was suggested was that Jeremy have another EEG that will last for 48 hours. He will be hooked up with a "cap" that he will wear at home. We hope that this will show any patterns for more information. After this assessment, she may order a seizure protocol MRI at S&W to get more details. She also prescribed a starter kit for anti-seizure medication; however, when I went to get it filled along with the rest of the seizure medicine to continue with after the initial kit, it was over $200!!! We are going to speak with the neurologist to see if there are any cheaper options. This specific medicine was chosen because it would have little side effects though.
Our appointment to be suited up with the cap is October 17th, so please be in prayer for us in the mean time. We are very thankful that Jeremy has not had any other seizures or related problems since the initial one the day Henry was born.
UPDATE since yesterday's post:
We spoke with the pharmacy and the reason Jeremy's medicine was so expensive was because a starter kit was prescribed, which doesn't come in generic. We were able to just get generic in the same dosage without it being in a "kit", so it was much more affordable! God is good!
